About Us

The Margaret River Fudge Factory is 100% Australian owned and started operating in 1999. Margaret River is situated approximately 3 hours south of Perth and has become a popular tourist area famous for its wines and food produce.

The origin of the candy called 'fudge' was probably the accidental graining of caramel prepared with high sugar content. Some manufacturers have labelled basic caramel as being fudge. There is one important difference between caramel and fudge. Caramel is basically a fat emulsion in an amorphous syrup with the milk protein dispersed with the fat and milk protein, in the syrup phase of a saturated solution of sugar and glucose.

The fudge manufactured at the Margaret River Fudge Factory follows the definition and correct recipe for fudge and was devised after years of trial and error in Australia. The fudge is made by the process of rapid mixing and is the 'home made' product we all love. To ensure that every piece of fudge maintains the highest level of quality each phase of our preparation and production is done by hand.

We individually inspect all ingredients in every batch of fudge. We closely monitor the temperature and cooking time of the fudge. A slight variation in cooking time or temperature could cause the fudge not to set or too lose its robust flavour.

Our cooking process allows us to give the fudge the individual attention that machine or mass production can not.  Enjoy a fresh tea, coffee or cappuccino and watch it all happen!

Our Environment

Here at the Margaret River Fudge Factory, we are aware of the needs to become environmentally friendly.

We use alternate power, sourced through Alinta Gas. This power is generated from two sources:
- highly efficient natural gas cogeneration units in Pinjarra, and
- the Alinta Wind Farm near Geraldton

Using the latest in wind power and cogeneration technology means our Alinta electricity is cleaner than the electricity produced by traditional coal-fired methods. More information on how you can use cleaner electricity can be found at www.alintagas.com.au

The paper shopping bags that we use to place your goods in, are fully bio-degradable.

Our company vehicles are carbon neutral. We chose Carbon Neutral (www.carbonneutral.com.au) to offset our carbon emissions. Carbon Neutral plants hundreds of thousands of native trees each year in environmentally vulnerable areas. Planting trees is an effective way to absorb or 'sequester' carbon dioxide emissions.

Did you know that Australians send 34 printer cartridges to landfill every minute? That equates to 2,050 an hour. That’s 5,000 tonnes per year! Here at the Margaret River Fudge Factory we participate in the 'Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' program by recycling our cartridges, and we also offer a collection box for you to drop off your own cartridges at our sister company, Fremantle Chocolate (www.freochoc.com.au).
'Cartridges 4 Planet Ark’ prevents pollution by ensuring that none of the cartridges collected are dumped in landfill, and that the processing of cartridges at Close The Loop® facility operates within strict environmental management systems. Four million printer cartridges have been diverted from landfill in the last 4 years, thanks to 'Cartridges 4 Planet Ark'. If the 4 million printer cartridges collected via the program were lined up, they would stretch from Melbourne to Canberra (709km). Check out www.planetark.com/cartridges for more information.

All our cardboard waste is collected and recycled by the Damien Cole Group (www.dcgrecycling.com.au/) and processed at their local facilities. This not only reduces landfill, but also extends the life of this valuable resource without cutting down more trees.

We will always be looking into ways to make us, a cleaner company for our environment!
